About
- In 1962 Tony's Bar opened here, considered Spain's first gay bar; in 1968, in La Nogalera, Pourquoi pas?, the first lesbian bar
- On 25 June 1971 the police raided the Pasaje Begoña: 119 people arrested, foreigners expelled and Spaniards jailed
- Today the Pasaje Begoña is an LGBTI historical memory site, nicknamed the "Spanish Stonewall"
- Pride is held every June: a parade with floats, activities and concerts in Plaza de La Nogalera; in 2026 it included talks and films at the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso

- During Pride the hotels almost completely fill up: book well in advance
- The La Nogalera area has lots of nightlife all year round
- At the east end of the Bajondillo there is a gay-friendly atmosphere (Wikipedia)
