AddressArriate, pegado a Ronda por el norte: se llega por la carretera de Ronda a Setenil
About
- Flat village of about 4,000 inhabitants (603 m), among market gardens: its name comes from the Arabic Arriadh, 'the orchards'
- Iglesia de San Juan de Letrán and a lively main street
- Río Guadalcobacín, with caves on both banks, steps carved into the rock and a mill in the wall
- Roman bridge over the Arroyo de la Ventilla and the Cerro del Coto, an old Iberian settlement
- It became independent from Ronda in 1630 by paying 352,739 maravedíes
Good to know
- The old railway station is now a restaurant
- To eat: chorizo in lard, morcilla (blood sausage), pig's trotters, migas (fried breadcrumbs), garlic rabbit and, to drink, mistela (sweet fortified wine)
- Festivals: romería (pilgrimage festival) on the first Saturday of May, feria in late June (28–29) and Los Tostones on 1 November
- Wines of the Serranía are made around here: a good addition to a winery route
