About
- Village with houses tucked under the rock of the Río Trejo gorge; a Historic Site since 1985
- Calle Cuevas del Sol and Calle Cuevas de la Sombra are the most photographed streets
- Nasrid castle (13th c.), with the keep (Torre del Homenaje)
- Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación (15th–17th c.), Mudéjar and Gothic
Good to know
- Getting there: about 20 km from Ronda along the Arriate road; ideally combine it with Ronda on the same day
- Parking: leave the car in the free car park at the entrance (Avenida de Andalucía, 10-15 min on foot) and walk down; in the centre (Plaza de Andalucía) there is a paid blue zone and it's hard to find a space at weekends
- Eating: Bar Frasquito and Restaurante El Mirador are among the best rated; try sopas cortijeras (country soups), cured meats and conejo a la serrana (rabbit mountain-style)
- Semana Santa (Holy Week) of Tourist Interest ("los blancos" and "los negros"); the August fair is held by day on calle Cuevas del Sol
