What comes up most in reviews: croquettes, ensaladilla, prawns, oxtail, bonito, ham and patatas bravas. Finish with a glass of sweet Málaga wine.
Málaga's most famous bodega: a maze of rooms and courtyards with a terrace facing the Roman Theatre and the Alcazaba. A must-stop, but go knowing what you are getting.
Book (by phone or at reservas@elpimpi.com), especially for the Calle Alcazabilla terrace and at weekends: without a booking you can wait more than half an hour. The venue has several entrances (Calle Granada and Calle Alcazabilla): ask where reception is. The kitchen does not close at midday, so at 16:30 or 17:00 you can eat without the crowds. Go for the place, the rooms full of photos and signatures and the atmosphere: the food is decent, not memorable, and in high season the service slips (TripAdvisor, 3.8/5 from more than 17,000 reviews).
The centre is pedestrianised: metro to Atarazanas station (Alameda Principal) and a few minutes' walk, or park at the Alcazaba car park (Calle Alcazabilla).
